TAN SRI DATO’ DR MOHD MUNIR BIN ABDUL MAJID (Chairman, FSPB)


Tan Sri Dr. Munir returned from his studies and work experience in the UK as a university tutor and research analyst in the City of London at the end of 1978, and started work in Malaysia as leader writer for the New Straits Times. He progressed to the position of Group Editor before leaving in 1986 to become Chief Executive Officer of a small merchant bank Pertanian Baring Sanwa, whose name he changed to Commerce International Merchant Bankers (CIMB), which was then transformed into one of Malaysia’s leading merchant banks. In 1993, he was invited by the Government of Malaysia to establish the Securities Commission, where he served as founding Executive Chairman for two terms until 1999. He was instrumental in shaping the legal and regulatory framework of the capital markets in Malaysia, particularly in establishing disclosure-based regulation. He was also responsible for drafting the country’s first code of corporate governance in the aftermath of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-98. He was the Chairman of the Emerging Markets Committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions during his term at Malaysia’s Securities Commission. After leaving the Securities Commission, he became Independent Non-Executive Director of Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Chairman of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad and Non-Executive Chairman of Malaysian Airline System Berhad. He was Founder President of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, established in 2003 and is a member of the Court of Fellows of the Malaysian Institute of Management. He is currently Chairman respectively of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, of CIMB Asean Research Institute and of the Asean Business Advisory Council, Malaysia, as well as President of the Asean Business Club. He also sits on the board of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia and on the Financial Services Talent Council of Bank Negara Malaysia. He writes a fortnightly column, in the Saturday BizStar section of The Star newspaper.

Tan Sri Dr. Munir obtained a B.Sc (Econ) and Ph.D in international relations from the London School of Economic and Political Science (LSE) in 1971 and 1978. He is an Honorary Fellow of LSE and continues the long association with his alma mater as Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre of International affairs, Diplomacy and Strategy.

Dato’ Seri Johan Raslan

Johan is a Former Executive Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia. He worked in auditing and corporate advisory for 10 years in London and for 20 years in Kuala Lumpur. He retired from PwC in 2012.

A Chartered Accountant, Johan is a member of the Malaysian Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and is also an Eisenhower Fellow.

Amongst other positions he has held in the past, Johan has been: board member of Putrajaya Corporation (Putrajaya is the new city which houses most of the Government of Malaysia); board member of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP is the pension fund for Malaysian civil servants); trustee of the Sultan Azlan Shah Foundation; member of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Financial Stability Executive Committee; Chairman of the Financial Reporting Foundation (which oversees the accounting standard-setting in Malaysia); member of the Securities Commission Malaysia’s Corporate Governance Consultative Committee; President of the MICPA; Adjunct Professor of University Malaya; and President of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club.

Mr Richard Thomas, OBE

Managing Director, Sustainable Economy Limited

Richard is currently Managing Director at Sustainable Economy Limited, United Kingdom. He was previously Institutional, Governmental and Multilateral Relationships of Gatehouse Bank and Senior Advisor to the Board, Gatehouse Bank plc. Richard relinquished his role as Chief Executive Officer of Gatehouse Bank to focus on expanding Gatehouse Bank business model in SE Asia and linking the third Islamic financial hub to the UK.

Gatehouse Bank received its authorisation to operate as a Shariah-compliant investment bank based in the City of London from the Financial Services Authority in April 2008. The Bank is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

In a career spanning almost 35 years in Merchant and Investment Banking in the City of London, the last 30 years have been entirely in "Islamic Financial Services” and dedicated to establishing the Islamic economic model as viable in the heart of the City of London and in an international context. Richard has held senior management and Board executive and non-executive positions in regulated financial services firms in the City of London since the 1980’s and authorised under successive regulatory regimes in various capacities.
Richard is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), a member of INCIEF Governing Council and also a British Expertise Advisory Council Member.

In 2010, Richard received his Order of the British Empire, an honour bestowed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition for civic excellence and his contribution to the UK Islamic Financial Services industry.

Sir David Tweedie

Chairman
Board of Trustees, International Valuation Standards Council
United Kingdom

Sir David was educated at Edinburgh University (BCom 1966, PhD 1969) and qualified as a Scottish Chartered Accountant in 1972. After teaching at Edinburgh University he became Technical Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) in 1978. In 1982, he was appointed national technical partner of Thomson McLintock & Co and later of KPMG.

In 1990, he became the Chairman of the UK Accounting Standards Board (ASB) and in January 2001 was appointed the first Chairman of the International accounting Standards Board (IASB). He then led the Board for ten years, retiring in June 2011.He is a Fellow of the Judge Business School at Cambridge University and a visiting Professor of Accounting in the Management School at Edinburgh University. He has received honorary degrees from nine British Universities.

He was knighted in 1994 and has been presented with a number of awards from the Accounting Profession. He was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in 2013. Sir David became President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in April 2012 (until April 2013) and Chairman of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) in October 2012. He chairs the Royal Household Audit Committee for the Sovereign Grant and is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Scottish Charities, Leuchie House and the ICAS Foundation.

Dato' Dr. Nik Ramlah Mahmood

Former Deputy Chief Executive and Commission member
Securities Commission Malaysia

Dato’ Dr. Nik Ramlah Mahmood retired as Deputy Chief Executive and Commission member of Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) in March 2016, having served the SC in various capacities since joining the institution in 1993, the year it was established.

Currently she is a member of the board of the Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation which is better known as Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM). She also sits on the boards of United Malacca Berhad, Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad and the Securities Industry Development Corporation. She is also a member of the Professional Development Panel (Senate) of International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) and an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA.
 
Dato’ Dr. Nik Ramlah Mahmood graduated with a First Class Honours in Law in 1979 from the University of Malaya and obtained her LLM and PhD from the University of London, U.K.

 


Mr. Lee Lung-Nien

Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director
Citibank Berhad

Lung is the Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Berhad, Citigroup’s wholly-owned sub
sidiary in Malaysia. He has overall responsibility for Citi’s franchise in Malaysia including its Institutional Clients Group, Consumer Banking, Cards and Wealth Management businesses.
 
He is a veteran Citibanker with over 28 years of experience. Prior to his current appointment, Lung was the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Business Head for Asia and had senior oversight of the Citi Regional AML monitoring hub in Kuala Lumpur. He was responsible for streamlining the AML business processes regionally, implementing policy changes and managing global AML implementations to enhance controls and mitigate AML risk. Together with Compliance, he developed a regional AML strategy for Asia Pacific.
 
In 2010, Lung was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Singapore and was tasked to drive the bank’s business results, implementing the country’s strategy, developing the talent pool and executing cost franchise initiatives. He was also the Singapore Markets Manager and worked closely with Singapore regulators to coordinate compliance and regulatory processes for Citi Singapore. Lung has 23 years of experience in Markets, his last posting being the Co-Head of Corporate Sales & Structuring for Asia Pacific in 2007. He was responsible for all foreign exchange, options and derivatives sales to corporate and institutional clients in the region. He started his career as a credit analyst in the bank and has held various key positions including Head of Singapore Treasury Market, Regional e-Commerce Head for Asia and Sales & Trading Head for Malaysia.
 
He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude from Chaminade University, USA.
 
 

Ms. Anusha Thavarajah

Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director
AIA Bhd

Ms. Anusha A/P Thavarajah is the CEO of AIA Bhd. She also holds the position of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) President for the second consecutive year, and serves as the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) Chairman. 
 
Ms. Anusha's career in insurance spans over 25 years and began in the UK. She returned to Malaysia in 2002 and went on to hold several leadership roles in AIA Bhd. and ING Insurance Berhad, including as AIA's Deputy General Manager of Operations, Finance and Actuarial where she played a key role in the successful integration of AIA and ING's businesses in Malaysia. She was appointed to head AIA Bhd. in June 2015. Prior to becoming CEO, Ms. Anusha was Regional Business Development Director at AIA Group Limited, where she provided strategic leadership to AIA's businesses in Southeast Asia.
 
Ms Anusha graduated with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Birmingham and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, UK.
 

Mr. Antony Lee

Chief Executive Officer
AIG Malaysia Insurance Berhad

Antony Lee is the Chief Executive Officer of AIG Malaysia. Antony, a Malaysian citizen, has been in the insurance sector for over 18 years. Prior to this appointment, he was the CEO of AIG Vietnam from 2011 where his responsibilities included the development of a key growth country for AIG within the Asia Pacific region. He began his career at AIG in 2001 as VP of Business Development with AIG’s Software International JV based in Malaysia.
 
Antony holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Diploma in Architecture from University College London and is also a graduate of AIG’s Executive Development Management program.
 
He is also the Chairman of the General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) as well as a director of the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), and the Ombudsman for Financial Services (OFS).
