The Financial Services Profession Board (FSPB”) is a dedicated initiative by the financial services industry with a focus on the development and advocacy of voluntary professional and ethical standards that are applicable across the industry including banking, capital markets, insurance and Islamic finance. The aim of FSPB is to support a strong culture of professionalism, including ethics, in the industry. Its formation is rooted in the belief that professionalism, including ethics, in the financial services industry should be at the forefront of the industry’s agenda domestically, regionally and internationally.
MAIN ACTIVITIES OF FSPB:
Develop and Advocate Standards
Develop and advocate professional and ethical standards that are applicable across the entire financial services industry, including banking, capital markets, insurance and Islamic finance.
Facilitate the sharing of global good practices relating to professionalism, including ethics, across the financial services industry.
Research and Development
Conduct research into potential areas of interest relating to professionalism, including ethics, across the financial services industry.
HOW FSPB FUNCTIONS:
A key element of FSPB’s development and advocacy of professional and ethical standards is industry engagement. It is expected that these discussions will drive the development, promotion and adoption of FSPB’s cross-sectoral professional and ethical standards in the industry. The industry is thus encouraged to engage with FSPB to explore the development of professional or ethical standards that may be required by the industry.
Generally, FSPB will:
Identify areas for professional and ethical standards development and enhancements that are applicable across the industry
Work with the industry on a cross-sector basis to address gaps in professional and ethical standards
Advocate convergence, coherence and harmonisation of professional and ethical standards in the industry with the view of raising the bar of professionalism, including ethics, across the industry
Encourage the adoption of common professional standards and ethical standards across the industry
Provide guidance and support on the implementation of FSPB professional and ethical standards
The adoption of FSPB standards by the industry is voluntary. Materials regarding FSPB standards development are available via the FSPB website.
FSPB comprises a group of prominent members from the financial services industry who believe that the credibility and the sustainability of the financial services industry requires the entire industry to adhere to high professional and ethical standards.
The Board has the following responsibilities:
To consider and approve standards designed to enhance professionalism, including ethics, in the industry;
To ensure that the professional and ethical standards developed are consistent and aligned to international benchmarks; and
To promote a strong culture of professionalism, including ethics, in the industry.
